What is the most unusual career transition you’ve ever encountered?
“Well, the one that comes readily to mind in my career is a young finance chap who joined our program.
The consultant he was working with came into our consultants' meeting looking rather bemused, saying, "I don’t quite know where to go here, because the chap I’m talking about -- the young finance person -- wants to concentrate on becoming a stand-up comic, and I don’t quite know what to do!"
So we all sort of had brainstorms and tried to work out ways of assisting him, and it actually evolved that he did become a stand-up comic -- he’s out there now... In fact, I read his name in the paper the other day where he’s doing something in that world.
Towards the end of his time with us, we were having a Christmas party and I said to this young chap, ‘Well, do you want a practice and have a gig with us, and do something at the Christmas party?’
And he actually sent up outplacement in a very funny way -- it was his practice gig!”
